Artist rendering of how the original St. Philomena Church may have looked in the 1870s, located in Kalawao on the Kalaupapa Peninsula, Island of Molokai. The artist captured this work while sitting in the peace-fullness of Kalawao.
Another iconic aspect of Molokai are the axis deer. They provide food for the camp-people at some times. Now they run free.
This was painted in Kalawao as well. As I was sitting enjoying the quiet of Kalaupapa.
Molokai Beach on the East end, where so many Hawaiian Ohana have lived for generations.
Here we see the ancient fishponds on the east end that sustained the Molokai ohana (families) for generations.
Here is Upcountry Molokai, on the road to the Kalaupapa lookout. The surrounding scenery transports the viewer to the pristine Molokai vista.
This is a Coconut Grove, and this was a machine gun bunker, built in the forties.
